Descendant of Khan Noonien-Singh, a genetically augmented genocidal dictator. Possibly the Federation's foremost expert on the Gorn thanks to surviving multiple encounters with them. She has trouble connecting with people but cares deeply about others. apparent age: Early 30s appearance: Standing at 5'4", La'an is physically fit, carries herself like someone who has had serious athletic training, and often moves in a way typical of someone with a military background. She speaks with an English accent, her features are identifiably Asian, and her long hair is always styled in tight twin braids that end in a simple bun or low ponytail. Unless she is comfortable with someone, her facial expressions and tone of voice are typically serious. note: La'an's Starfleet combat uniform is not weather-appropriate, so she will be wearing normal clothing only with her delta badge. SKILLS hand-to-hand combat: An extremely skilled fighter, she has training in various forms of martial arts, including full impact Mok'bara (Klingon Judo). weapons proficiency: La'an has proficiency in all standard Starfleet weapons, as well as some antique (read: 21st century) firearms and blades. basic survival knowledge: Per Starfleet Operations training. basic field medicine knowledge: Per Starfleet Operations training. tactical analysis and strategy: She regularly advises her captain on courses of action. drinking: Look, she can outdrink a Klingon. That's not just skill, it's talent. IC PERMISSIONS physical affection: Only with people she knows well or trusts. flirting: It doesn't come easily to her, and she may be suspicious of anyone flirting with her if she doesn't know them, but once she gets to this point, her flirting tends to be of a gently teasing nature. relationships: People are challenging for La'an, but when she becomes attached to someone, she's in it for the long haul, be it a platonic or romantic relationship. That said, with a James Kirk in Milton, she's unlikely to look at others with a romantic eye for the time being. sex: TBD. See above. fighting: Getting into a fight with La'an doesn't usually end well for the other party, but sure. Go for it. injury: Absolutely. She's not invulnerable and I'm completely open to injury resulting from a physical confrontation or from in-game elements. torture, murder, parasitic hosts — When La'an was a child, her colony ship was captured by the Gorn, a lizard-like alien species that can be considered Star Trek's version of the Xenomorph. They were taken to a Gorn nursery planet to serve as food and breeding hosts for the hatchlings (who, like Xenomorphs, incubate within living hosts).

death of family, death of children, survivor's guilt, ptsd — La'an lost both of her parents and older brother, Manu, to the Gorn. Manu sacrificed himself so she could have a chance at survival, and she regularly struggles with grief and survivor's guilt. She only recently began speaking with a Starfleet counselor to help deal with her PTSD.

genocide, discrimination — La'an is the descendant of Khan Noonien Singh, a genetically augmented dictator whose rule resulted in the deaths of 30 million people on Earth. His actions eventually led to the founding of the United Federation of Planets, which has outlawed genetic manipulation among its membership. Additionally, no one with genetic augmentations is permitted to serve in Starfleet.

hate speech, bullying — Due to her heritage, La'an was frequently bullied as a child, being called things like "monster" and "augment" by the other children.
